The Joker has been a clown, a comedian, a criminal and what not – but for now, it has become a catastrophe. Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer Joker: Folie a Deux, undoubtedly came out as a disaster on the big screens. With a narrowly disappointing earning ratio, the film did not seem to be doing well despite powerful actors like Lady Gaga and Phoenix in significant roles.

But, what has come out as an even shocking stance before the audience is its screen performance proving to be even lower than the old flop of industry – morbius. Morbius, which is part of the Sony Spider-Man Universe and a Marvel character underperformed at the box office. The film was called-off by the fans upon its release. But it seems the 2024 DC movie is worse than that. Morbius featured Jared Leto in the titular role, who coincidentally also played the character of Joker in Suicide Squad in 2016. The 2022 comic book movie was subjected to internet memes, and Leto won the Golden Raspberry Awards for the category Worst Actor.
Surpassing the same in terms of being the worst, Joaquin Phoenix’s movie Joker: Folie a Deux earned only a total of $37.7 million on its 3-day debut weekend. This overall collection was not only poorer than the original movie’s earning but also lower than Jared Leto starrer Morbius. The OG film collected $96 million despite coming out as a major flop. This has really questioned Todd Philip’s idea of execution. Morbius, The Flash and The Marvels are some of the lowest-earning comic book movies in the past few years, and Joaquin Phoenix’s crime drama has beaten them all.
For the unversed, Morbius collected $39 million only on its debut weekend at the box office in North America.While, The Flash and The Marvels’ collections, reportedly were $55 million and $46.1 million. “Part jukebox musical and part court room drama, Joker 2 is “just crashing and burning. Even fans of Joker are unlikely to find much to redeem this chaotic, profoundly stupid mess,” said critics post watching the movie.
