CANCELLED! Jani Master’s National Award For ‘Megham Karuthu’ Revoked After Assaulting Charges

The National Award for choreographer Jani Master, born Shaik Jani Basha has been suspended after he was accused of sexual assault. Jani Master, who was supposed to receive the award for Best Choreography for the song ‘Megham Karukuthu’ from Tamil movie Thiruchitrambalam is now facing serious legal trouble.

Last month, the choreographer was making headlines after a 21-year-old woman had accused Jani Master of sexually assaulting her over several years. The abuse reportedly started when she was a minor and the woman said that the assaults continued during a work trip to Mumbai and at other cities in 2020. Later, Jani Master was arrested on September 19, 2024 under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

On October 4, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting suspended Jani Master’s National Award. They also cancelled his invitation to the National Film Awards ceremony which is scheduled for October 8. The ministry explained that the award was announced before the allegations came to light.

Netizens are deeply disappointed and shocked by the accusations, while others believe that canceling the award was the right decision. “Justice must be served,” one fan wrote online, while another commented, “The award should go to someone who deserves it.”

With the charges against him, Jani Master’s future in the film industry is now uncertain. His case is still ongoing, and the public is watching closely for what happens next.
