Karisma Kapoor wed Sunjay Kapur in 2003. Their union concluded in 2014. Sunjay alleged that Karisma entered into marriage with him primarily for his wealth. He claimed she was merely a rebound following her relationship with Abhishek Bachchan. Sunjay Kapur’s assertion regarding being the “rebound” in Karisma Kapoor’s life arises from his accusations made during their tumultuous divorce proceedings.
He contended that Karisma married him in 2003 as a means to move past her failed engagement with Abhishek Bachchan, characterizing their marriage as a “calculated and clinical” choice. Kapur further maintained that Karisma’s main intention was to achieve financial benefit.
The couple wed in 2003 and have two children. Their relationship encountered difficulties, culminating in a divorce that was finalized in 2016. Throughout the legal proceedings, Karisma Kapoor claimed that Sunjay Kapur had coerced her into distressing situations, including requesting that she engage in sexual relations with his friends during their honeymoon.
Their marriage, which endured until their divorce in 2016, was characterized by public conflicts. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic violence and dowry harassment, while he retaliated with allegations that she manipulated their children to control him and attempted to estrange him from them.
Karishma’s father, the veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, has been vocally critical of his daughter Karisma Kapoor’s marriage to businessman Sunjay Kapur, expressing his opposition to the union from the very beginning. In various interviews, he has stressed that the Kapoor family does not need to “chase after anyone’s wealth,” underscoring their own affluence and talent as adequate. Furthermore, he characterized Sunjay Kapur as a “third-class man,” accusing him of neglecting his wife and partaking in inappropriate conduct.
