Actress Kiran Joneja recently opened up in an honest conversation about her marriage to legendary filmmaker Ramesh Sippy. The power couple who has been together for over 35 years and despite initial public judgments over Ramesh Sippy’s broken first marriage and past relationships, their bond has stood strong – proving their unbreakable bond.
In an exclusive interview below, when asked whether life changed after marriage, Kiran agreed saying “Of course, bahut badli, bilkul badli.” She reflected on her Aquarian personality who are ahead of time, and how she viewed marriage as just a paper something secondary to the connection between two people.
Talking about her dating phase with Ramesh Sippy, Kiran revealed that they were together for 3–4 years before getting married. Her friends often warned her to get married quickly or risk being left. But she never let those fears affect her. “If he has to leave, then better now than after marriage,” she said. “It has to be mutual. If one person isn’t interested, marriage or no marriage makes no difference.” She added, “He should want to be with me, and I should want to be with him. That’s the only way a relationship works.”
When asked about Ramesh Sippy’s alleged affairs before marriage, Kiran stayed calm and unfazed. “I have not heard of any affairs after we started dating,” she stated. When reminded that there were women in his life before her, she simply said, “Thike hoga! But that’s the past. I don’t want to talk about it, I wouldn’t even comment on it.”
Her blunt response “I don’t care!” summed up her perspective. She also added, “I’m not that kind of person. I’m secure in myself. If a man doesn’t want to stay with me, then I wouldn’t want to stay with him either. It’s as simple as that.”
