Actress Kiran Joneja, the legendary Ramesh Sippy’s wife talked about a topic that has often been the subject of public discussion – her bond with Ramesh Sippy’s three children from his first marriage, opening up in a recent interview with Lehren. Kiran who married the Sholay director in 1991, shared how things have always been simpler than what people assumed.
When asked how she bonds with Ramesh Sippy’s children, Kiran replied clearly, “They all call me by name. They call me Kiran. Nobody calls me anything else.” She added, “Everybody, all three children.. Sonam also.”
Kiran Joneja explained that her bond with Rohan, Sheena and Sonam has always been respectful and comfortable. “It’s a wonderful relationship. I go to the office and Rohan comes to the office all the time. We work together and when Sheena’s here, I meet her. We went and stayed with Sona,” she said.
Rather than the usual narrative about stepmothers shown in films and society, Kiran took a practical approach. She believes that keeping personal boundaries plays a key role in maintaining any relationship. As she put it, “I think agar aap apni boundaries jaante ho toh relationships kabhi sawar nahi hote. You need to know that ‘Yeh main bol sakti hu, yeh main nahi bol sakti. Yeh mera area nahi hai, mujhe yaha nahi gusna hai.’ Agar aap apni boundaries jaanti hai toh koi rishta karab nahi hota.”
She added firmly, “I will not go into that area jaha meri koi zarurat nahi hai comments ki. I will only comment on somethhing jaha mujhe lagta hai ‘Haan, yaha koi value hai iss baat ki’.”
Kiran also shared that she never had any fights with Ramesh Sippy’s children and there’s no bitterness with his ex-wife either. Talking about the age gap, she mentioned it never really felt odd since the difference between them wasn’t that large.
