Choreographer Ahmed Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were once shooed away from Mannat’s premises. Years later, SRK made an unexpected decision. What happened next? Read the full story here!

Before Mannat became one of Mumbai’s most famous landmarks, Shah Rukh Khan was once told to leave its premises. Choreographer Ahmed Khan recently shared an interesting memory from the late 1990s during the shoot of ‘Chand Taare’ from Yes Boss (1997). He recalled how he and SRK were asked to move away from the location which later became the superstar’s home.

In an exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, Ahmed Khan shared how a part of the song was meant to be shot outside what is now known as Mannat. At that time, the mansion had a different name. “We were shooting ‘Chand Taare’ outside Mannat and the watchman shooed us away. There’s a shot where a Parsi couple drives by, and Shah Rukh jumps on the car. We took that shot, and then the watchman told us to leave,” he said.

Ahmed Khan recalled that in response to the situation, Shah Rukh Khan jokingly said, ‘Khareed lu kya? Fir shot lenge.’ (Shall I buy it? Then we’ll be able to shoot here.) He even asked the crew, ‘Yeh khareed lu kya?’ (Shall I buy this?) Years later, this joke became a reality when SRK purchased the property in 2001 for Rs 13.01 crore. Today, Mannat is estimated to be worth around Rs 200 crore.

Meanwhile , currently Shah Rukh Khan and his family are temporarily moving to another residence as Mannat undergoes renovation. The heritage property is expected to be revamped over the next two years.
