Legendary Nana Patekar, known for his versatile acting and outspoken nature, often speaks his mind without hesitation. Last year his comments on the upcoming third installment of the ‘Welcome’ franchise titled Welcome to the Jungle grabbed attention. He stated that the film has “no story” and that’s why he turned down the offer. Now, Ahmed Khan has reacted to Nana Patekar’s remark questioning, “Toh hum kya shoot kar rahe hai fir?”
Ahmed Khan Reacts to Nana Patekar’s Statement
In an exclusive interview with Lehren Retro, when asked about Nana Patekar’s remark regarding the film’s lack of a storyline. Ahmed Khan first acknowledged Nana’s nature saying, “Nana is such a person who is very outspoken, vo muhh pe bol dete (He speaks his mind without hesitation).” Further Ahmed also went on to share that how they have a strong bond and often communicate over calls.
defending the film, Ahmed elaborated saying “Many actors are offered 20 films a year; they can’t do every film, right? They have to pick and choose. Some actors refuse due to date issues, while others due to financial reasons.” However, when asked again about Nana’s comment, Ahmed reacted and said “Toh humlog shooting kya kar rahe hai fir? (Then what are we shooting for?)” He then laughed and added, “Humlog set pe ja rahe hai aur ‘roll, camera aur pata nahi’ aisa ho raha hai? (Are we just going to the set and saying ‘roll, camera,’ and nothing else is happening?)”
What Did Nana Patekar Say?
Last year, when Welcome to the Jungle was announced fans were quick to notice the absence of Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor their favourites Uday and Majnu bhai. Soon later Nana Patekar revealed the reason for declining the film during an interview with Lallantop, he stated, “They did approach us. We said no. Kahani nahi hai. Utna mazza nahi aaya. (There’s no story. We didn’t enjoy it as much.)” His comment instantly caught the audience’s attention sparking different reactions online.
The actor-turned-choreographer Ahmed Khan is known for directing films like Lakeer, Fool & Final, Heropanti 2 and the Baaghi series, has now taken on the responsibility of helming the Welcome franchise, originally directed by Anees Bazmee. With Welcome (2007) and Welcome Back (2015) being cult favorites, the threequel holds immense significance for fans. The humour and iconic characters, especially those played by Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor, have become a part of pop culture with their dialogues still popular in meme culture today.
