Karan Johar’s popular chat show Koffee with Karan is in its seventh edition. Ever since the show started in 2004 it has had its fair share of controversies and hatred. Filmmaker Karan Johar opened up on the hate and trolling that comes his and the show’s way. The director-producer Karan Johar feels very ‘moved and touched’ by the reels of discourse that people have about Koffee With Karan.
The show emerged as a platform for gossip and controversies made by the guests and the host himself. Many have criticized the show and trolled showing their hatred towards it and the guests. The host Karan Johar has comprehended to deal with enmity and rather than taking it to heart he finds it entertaining. Earlier KJo also called his show ‘cringe binge’ and ‘guilty pleasure viewing’. This can’t be anyway surprising because people who watch the show are the ones criticizing it.
Recently, Karan Johar spoke on the hate surrounding his show Koffee With Karan to The Hindu. He said, “So, I don’t know how much of the hate and trolling is actually about the show; it’s really more about the fact that a show like this exists, and has this kind of abandon. A lot of the hate sometimes is entertaining, because I wonder why they are cursing it so much, but also watching it? I read the threads on Twitter and other portals; reels and reels of discourse that people are having about KWK… and I feel very moved and touched. I’m like, that’s a lot of time you have taken out of your lives to write such a long column on something you hated so much.”
He added: “I’ll be honest; I’m definitely not justifying anything to anyone, but I feel like I owe it to myself to talk about it. It’s cathartic for me. I feel sometimes, if I don’t talk about it, people may think that I’m actually still affected by it.”
The new season started with a bang welcoming A-lister celebrities from Bollywood and the South as well. The last episode had Vicky Kaushal and Sidharth Malhotra as guests. In the next episode that will stream this Thursday, Kabir Singh cast Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani will grace the couch. Every new episode of KWK7 is aired on Thursday exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
