Recently BTS member RM shared a track on social media from Frank Ocean’s debut studio album Channel Orange titled Bad Religion. However, his act has sparked outrage online, and a heated debate has erupted surrounding the South Korean rapper. This is because netizens are accusing RM for sharing an Islamophobic song on social media. A user wrote, “It’s the biggest mistake he ever made, man you have a big Muslim fandom out there they always respect you as a person who makes a change in this sick world! And protect you from hate! This is how you return the favor to them?? RM APOLOGISE TO MUSLIMS”.

A fan group of RM came to his defense and pointed out the true meaning of the song, which is not Islamophobic at all.

There is a possible explanation that Ocean’s attraction to men is shunned by many who follow different religions, meaning he may see the prayer in a negative light.

Ocean’s “Bad Religion,” released in 2012, has gained fame for delving into the experience of unreciprocated affection amidst challenges with faith. The song’s name has occasionally led to misconceptions, as it alludes to the Islamic expression “Allahu Akbar.” Supporters of RM underscore that the song actually tackles the conflict of embracing one’s homosexuality within the framework of religious convictions, rather than promoting Islamophobia.

Numerous tweets that criticized RM’s post seemed to misunderstand the intent behind ‘Bad Religion,’ linking it to Islamophobia. Nevertheless, fans argued that the song doesn’t directly target Islam; instead, it mirrors Ocean’s personal experiences and emotions.
