“Very Good”-Jeff Goldblum Confirms His Role In ‘Wicked’ Movie Musical

Jeff Goldblum gave a brief look inside the set of Universal Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of the Broadway classic Wicked. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the Jurassic Park star was in talks to sign on as Wizard in the film, directed by Jon M. Chu, and confirmed his role during Wednesday’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

“I was just on that set of Wicked. I’m not supposed to talk about it, but he wasn’t home,” she said while discussing the time he brought his two sons, River and Charlie, to the set. He then explained to Kimmel that his children were shown one of his favorite films”. He later added that they didn’t even make it through the entire film. (Hollywood Reporter)

On the topic of witches, the Independence Day actor also addressed his Wicked co-stars, saying, “You should get a very good look at our witches, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.”
Erivo was previously cast as Elphaba, with Grande taking on the role of Glinda in the film based on the Gregory Maguire novel and its Broadway musical adaptation. (Hollywood Reporter)

Goldblum told Kimmel about an emotional moment on set. “I wasn’t supposed to talk about it, but one day while filming I cried with fear, a childhood fear came back to me,” he recalled. He talked about his childhood dream to his co-star about a nightmare he had as a kid involving a “very scary queen/witch” who tied to kill him. He said that his two older brothers made fun of him because he was afraid of the bad dream for weeks, but that “witches scare me”.

The big screen adaptation will be split into two films, the first in theaters on November 27, 2024, and the second in the following year.
