Penn Badgley Credits His Wife For His “You” Role!

Penn Badgley credits his wife for the popular thriller role 'You' on Netflix; making the series one of the most-watched series of 2022.

Penn Badgley and his wife Domino Kirke-Badgley have an interesting love story. The pair met in July 2014, shortly after You, and have been inseparable ever since. After marrying not once but twice in 2017, the couple started a family together consisting of their youngest son, whom they welcomed in August 2020.

The two have been fairly transparent about their relationship, letting fans know about their romance through birthday gifts and goofy videos posted on social media. They also shared how they met after Penn’s Gossip Girl days (which Domino said she was completely unaware of) on her podcast Podcrushed, where Domino revealed the two almost became roommates.

Wife played a major role in Penn’s Netflix role ‘You’

Contrary to popular belief, Penn’s wife did in fact play a role in his career, as the actor consulted her on certain decisions, particularly when they implied he might have to film love scenes. In fact, Domino is a big reason why he even agreed to star in her Netflix drama after almost turning it down.

Penn previously discussed his “zero” intimacy scene policy for season four of “You” on his podcast, noting that “fidelity in every relationship and especially in my marriage is important to me.” The actor then doubled down on his argument in an interview with Variety published on Feb. 15, in which he revealed that his wife actually “encouraged” him to play his charming character series, despite wanting to turn down “You” for love scenes and reject Joe Goldberg’s role. “I didn’t want to listen to anyone but her,” he said.

In an interview with Glamor UK in January 2022, Domino revealed that she was “still getting used to the actor’s fame” despite the fact that the couple had been together for eight years at the time.”I haven’t seen ‘Gossip Girl’ so I really didn’t know what the fuss was about when I met him. So I’m still getting used to it, and I think he’s too because he’s always played a part in that ensemble. So this is new to him,” she explained of Penn’s “You” era.
