New Documentary to Explore John Lennon’s Tragic Murder And Investigation

A forthcoming documentary, ‘John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial,’ is set to delve into the tragic murder of the iconic musician and cultural figure, John Lennon. The three-part docuseries, to be streamed on Apple TV+, offers a comprehensive examination of the events surrounding Lennon’s murder and the subsequent investigation and conviction of Mark David Chapman.

Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland, the series promises exclusive eyewitness interviews and never-before-seen crime scene photos, shedding light on the shocking events of 1980.

Apple TV+ described ‘John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial’ as the most thoroughly researched exploration of John Lennon’s murder, a moment that deeply affected people worldwide. The production gained access to extensive information through Freedom of Information Act requests from the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole, and the District Attorney’s office. The series features interviews with eyewitnesses, many of whom are speaking out for the first time, as well as some of Lennon’s closest friends, who share previously undisclosed details of the tragic incident. Additionally, the documentary includes discussions with Mark David Chapman’s defense lawyers, psychiatrists, detectives, and prosecutors.

Notably, Yoko Ono, John Lennon’s widow, has not provided any public comments regarding the upcoming series.

On December 8, 1980, Mark David Chapman fired five shots at John Lennon as he entered his New York apartment building. Despite numerous parole requests, Chapman has been denied parole twelve times.

Chapman’s story was previously brought to the screen in the 2005 film ‘Chapter 27,’ starring Jared Leto.
