Heartstopper Star Kit Connor Shares He Felt ‘Forced’ To Publicly Reveal He’s Bisexual

Kit Connor portrays rugby player Nick Nelson, who engages in a romantic relationship with Charlie Spring.

Kit Connor is better known for starring in Netflix hit series, Heartstopper. However, the actor recently took to his social media and publicly revealed he’s bisexual. Though the actor shared that he was ‘forced’ to do so, Connor received support from fans.

Connor tweeted, “Back for a minute. I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye.” However, it was not immediately clear what led Connor to make the statement publicly, though some speculation recently occurred when he was pictured holding hands with actress Maia Reficco, with whom he stars in A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.

The actor received several supportive messages in response to his statement on Twitter. Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman also supported the actor while writing, “I truly don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes. I hope all those people are embarrassed. Kit you are amazing.”

On the Netflix series, Connor portrays rugby player Nick Nelson, who engages in a romantic relationship with Charlie Spring, played by Joe Locke. Meanwhile, in September, Connor left Twitter for a time amid speculation about his sexuality. He tweeted, “This is a silly silly app. bit bored of it now, deleting twitter :).” Oseman previously spoke with Variety about the impression he hopes the show makes on viewers.

‘If Heartstopper helps a young queer person in their coming out journey, or if it helps a parent understand their child a little bit better,’ Oseman said, “it is the most lovely and heartwarming thing you could hear and makes it feel like it’s all worth it.” Connor spoke this past May with the Reign With Josh Smith podcast about how he was uncomfortable with the speculation on the sexuality of he and his castmates.
