Ed Sheeran is a well-known name in the music industry. The singer is now trying to expand his career in the film industry with a cameo in MCU. Sheeran has also starred in the recently released movie Red Notice. However, everyone has to face failure as rejection can often be a step on the road to success. Somewhat similar happened with Ed Sheeran.
The then-schoolboy Edward (Ed Sheeran) took part in a televised audition to appear in ITV musical drama series Britannia High in 2007, where he performed Justin Timberlake’s Like I Love You. However, his wooden dancing failed to impress the former Strictly judge who declared he was not even an option to progress.
A clip from the failed audition has resurfaced recently. In the clip, Sheeran can be seen dressed in a dark green jumper and jeans. He stunned judges with his vocal ability and managed to get through to the second round. But he struggled with the dancing element and Dame Arlene remarked, “Ed hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing, but he is trying.”
The teen Sheeran then defended himself claiming, “I’m just trying to really get it in my head. I think I messed up as I got kicked in the face by accident.” Although, he was ultimately rejected for the show which aired for just one series. Responding to the disastrous audition, Sheeran, now 30, told The Jonathan Ross Show, “This was a TV show I did for ITV when I was 16 and it was a show where you had to be a triple threat. ‘You had to be able to act, dance and sing, two of which I couldn’t do.”
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter further said, “There is a girl who was at my high school and she was an incredible dancer. ‘She taught me this dance which looked amazing when she did it… so I just copied what she did. I walked out of the audition like ‘I think that went really well’ and then I saw Arlene Phillips go not a chance.”
Ed Sheeran who has since sold more than 150 million records worldwide recently secured his fifth number one album with = (Equals). However, last week he made a cameo appearance in the film Red Notice which became the most-watched movie ever in its opening weekend on Netflix. And earlier this week he announced a collaboration with Pokemon Go, a mobile phone game that had more than one billion downloads by early 2019.
