In an interview with GQ Magazine, international music sensation Ed Sheeran has shed light on the mysterious structure being constructed on his East Anglia estate, dispelling rumours of a crypt and revealing its true purpose as a chapel. This surprising revelation has sparked intrigue and heartfelt discussions among fans worldwide.
Earlier this year, reports had circulated regarding Ed Sheeran’s plans to construct a crypt beneath a chapel on his picturesque Suffolk estate. However, the singer-songwriter clarified that it is, in fact, a chapel designed to be a “private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer.”
According to The Guardian, Sheeran received approval to build this serene sanctuary back in 2019 on his £3.7 million estate (approximately ₹30 crore). When asked about the motive behind the chapel’s creation, Ed Sheeran shared that it was born out of his desire to create a meaningful place to mourn and remember those dear to him who had passed away.
He explained, “A lot of the people in my life who have passed were cremated, and I wanted a place to mourn them. When it was being built, I found it so beautiful that I wanted it to be my final resting place, where my children could come to remember me.”
Describing the structure, Ed humorously added, “It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there. People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do.”
Ed Sheeran, who is married to Cherry Seaborn, shares two daughters, Lyra Antarctica and Jupiter. Earlier this year, he publicly shared the news of his wife’s health struggles, revealing that she had been diagnosed with a tumor during her pregnancy.
