Dev Patel’s Film Monkey Man To Skip Its Release On Netflix?

The Slumdog Millionaire actor's movie may not release on the OTT giant platform, Netflix & face problems while releasing in India too.

Monkey Man, the directorial debut of Dev Patel, was originally scheduled to stream on Netflix. However, the film has been making headlines due to uncertainties surrounding its release in India. As Netflix abruptly shelved Dev Patel’s highly anticipated directorial debut Monkey Man, that too having approved and heavily invested in the picture, the same has been a subject of much conjecture. Here’s the reason behind the OTT platform’s termination.

Recently a source close to the OTT giant Netflix revealed, “Monkey Man is filled with sharp direct potshots at the ruling government. There is sloganeering and hoardings pointing fingers at India’s political system throughout the film. After what Amazon had gone through with Tandav, Netflix didn’t want to repeat the same mistake.” Meanwhile, during this tough phase director-producer Jordan Peele has intervened to save Dev Patel’s movie after Netflix decided to cancel it.

As per reports, despite the frantic attempts to turn the saffron color of hoardings red, it is unlikely that Monkey Man will obtain an Indian distribution now that the movie has been released worldwide.

For the unversed The Monkey Man stars Dev Patel, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikander Kher, Makarand Deshpande, Pitobash and Vipin Sharma in significant roles. The movie made its debut at the silver screens on 5th April 2024.
