Camila Cabello always keeps it real when it comes to mental health. Also, she never hesitated to address her mental health in front of anyone. However, In a recent conversation with a friend and co-founder Selena Gomez of Wondermind’s May cover story, Cabello detailed a time when she felt too ashamed to speak up about how she was feeling. Camila also revealed the best mental health advice she’s ever received and why she’s now more comfortable talking about her journey.
Camila explained, “I felt really anxious even talking about those things because I think before, I went on that journey. I was almost scared to be found out, like, ‘This is weird, my brain is broken, this isn’t normal.'” Later in the interview, the Havana singer told Gomez that her hesitancy to open up about it stemmed from the stigma surrounding therapy and medication something that she’s grown frustrated with.
Camila explained that she feels like the stigma exists even more in the older generations. People of the older generation have such shame about needing therapy or feeling anxiety. She added, “The stigma around saying that you need help is something that frustrates me.” Camila also said to Selena that “just because you’re in therapy doesn’t mean something is more wrong with you than other people.”
