Britney Spears Lands On Her First Project After Conservatorship

Britney Spears' latest acting gig comes 19 years after she made her debut in the movie Crossroads directed by Tamra Davis.

Britney Spears announced on Tuesday that she will be appearing on The Weeknd’s new series The Idol. She took to her social media to officially announce her new gig. However, the post came one day after Variety reported that a six-episode drama series called The Idol starring The Weeknd has been commissioned by HBO.

“I just shot a movie titled “THE IDOL” … it’s guaranteed to have hits and a lot bright pics to put in my beautiful family’s faces !!!!!” she announced on Instagram. “I hope you guys are having a merry ole jolly time cause I sure am !!!! If I go quiet from time to time, you can catch me with this cat somewhere !!!!⁣” added Britney in her new Instagram post revealing she had filmed The Idol.

Although, Britney’s post was uploaded alongside a reposted picture of a cat sitting next to a glass of wine, originally taken by a Ukrainian blogger. The Weeknd will star alongside an ensemble cast that includes Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp, Showgirls lead Elizabeth Berkley and Another World star Anne Heche.

However, Britney was recently freed from her conservatorship, over a month after her father was suspended as conservator of her estate. The pop singer’s cryptic new Instagram reference to her ‘beautiful family’ comes amid her longstanding dispute with her parents Jamie and Lynn. Since her legal victory over her father this September, Britney has also accused her mother of having been the true mastermind behind the conservatorship.

Meanwhile, Britney Spears’ latest acting gig comes 19 years after she made her debut in the movie Crossroads directed by Tamra Davis. Penned by Shonda Rhimes, Crossroads starred Britney with Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning playing her best friends. The trio buries a ‘wish box’ as children and then unearth it, as planned, the night they graduate high school after their lives have gone off in different directions.

The trio runs off with a man named Ben played by Anson Mount on a road trip to live out their childhood dreams. Crossroads was savaged by the critics but with the help of Britney’s global pop stardom, it fared well at the box office. Years later Shonda told Vice’s Broadly that Britney was ‘very cheerful, very fun’ on the set during the making of the picture.
