Austin Butler Addresses ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Casting Rumors

The ‘Dune: Part Two’ actor shares his views on joining the iconic franchise.

Austin Butler, the Oscar-nominated actor renowned for portraying Elvis Presley in Elvis (2022), recently addressed rumours about joining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on June 10, 2024, the Hollywood actor expressed his admiration for the iconic series while acknowledging the challenges of potentially stepping into such a significant role.

During the promotional interview for his latest film, The Bikeriders, Butler reacted to the rumours of him joining the reboot of Disney’s popular film series.  “I loved Pirates of the Caribbean,” Butler shared, reflecting on the franchise’s impact on him during his youth. The 32-year-old star added, “It’s a hard one to touch because they did it so well. I loved what Johnny did with that,” highlighting Johnny Depp’s memorable performance as Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Dead Don’t Die (2019) star, also remembered his childhood memory when his friends used to make posters of their favourite actors and music. Additionally, the actor added that for him it was Pirates of the Caribbean.

Butler, who has recently starred in critically acclaimed films like “Dune: Part Two” and “The Bikeriders,” has become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents. His nuanced performances and ability to transform into diverse characters have positioned him as a strong contender for leading roles in major franchises. However, Butler remains cautious about taking on such a legendary character.

He gained significant recognition for his roles in Elvis (2022), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), and recently in Dune: Part Two. Butler won a Golden Globe for Elvis and received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
