When Madhubala Married Kishore Kumar Out Of Anger Towards Dilip Kumar, But He Was Not A Good Husband

Madhubala’s Sister, Madhur Bhushan, Revealed Some Insights Into Her Sister's Marriage With Kishore Kumar

The eternal beauty of Indian cinema, Madhubala, died at a very young age – she was merely 36 when she passed away due to a prolonged illness. However, her films and her romantic connection with Dilip Kumar continue to be subjects of discussion. Even though she could not marry Dilip Kumar, her love for the “Mughal-E-Azam” actor persisted until her last breath.

While Madhubala was indeed married to Kishore Kumar, her marriage with the singer appeared to be far from a joyful union. Madhubala’s sister, Madhur Bhushan, shed light on their relationship during a conversation with Rediff News, revealing that Kishore Kumar wasn’t a supportive husband.

Madhur told Rediff that her sister had a hole in her heart and was about to leave for London for treatment, and it was during this time that Kishore Kumar proposed marriage.

“My father wanted her to wait and receive a clean bill of health from the doctors in London first. But Madhubala married Kishore Kumar out of stubbornness and anger towards Dilipsaab. They got married in 1960 when she was 27 years old”, Madhur told Rediff.

“After the doctor’s projection – that she had limited time left – Kishore bhai brought her a house in Mumbai’s Carter Road and left her there alone, accompanied only by a nurse and a driver. He would visit once every few months. He ignored her phone calls. Kishore bhai was deeply in love with Madhubala, but upon her return from London, he distanced himself from her. He was not a good husband,” she further disclosed.

“Madhubala sank into deep depression because nobody came to visit her. Once a sought-after personality in the industry, she was largely ignored during her bedridden and dying days. She spent most of her time in nightgowns. She passed away at the age of 36,” Madhur concluded.
