When Bollywood Star Raaj Kumar Affronted Singer Bappi Lahiri

Raaj Kumar was so inconsiderate that Bappi felt very humiliated. But Bappi was used to such criticism and called this, jealousy of others. His positive attitude towards such humiliation was the best part of his sweet nature.

Today is the 71st Birthday of Bappi Lahiri, known as beloved Bappi Da of Bollywood. It’s been a year since this sweet personality passed away. But his songs always remind everyone of him and mark his presence between us. Bappi Lahiri’s appearance was the one thing which would distinguish him from everyone else. But due to his appearance Bollywood superhero Raaj Kumar once made fun of him in front of many guests from the industry.

Raaj Kumar, famous for his role in Nausherwan-E-Adil, used to come in limelight due to his argumentative behaviour. He always used to have some kind of quarrels with any person from Bollywood and thus many celebrities were disappointed with his nature. Bappi Lahiri was one of them. Singer and Composer Bappi Lahiri was famous for his attire. With those shiny, glamorous blazers and jackets he used to wear multiple gold ornaments, gold chains and  glares. That was Bappi Lahiri.

During one Bollywood party Bappi Lahiri met Raaj Kumar. They greeted each other in very well manner and Raaj Kumar gave a glance on Bappi’s entire look from top to bottom. And then in very satirical way, he said, “Shaandar, ek se ek gehane pehne ho sirf mangalsutra (ornament married women wears) ki kami reh gayi hai.” (wonderful, what a collection of fantastic ornaments you have worn, just a Mangalsutra is lacking.)
He said this in front of everyone and Bappi was distasteful that time. Raaj Kumar was so inconsiderate that Bappi felt very humiliated. But Bappi was used to such criticism and called this, jealousy of others. His positive attitude towards such humiliation was the best part of his sweet nature.

Professional Side
Bappi had always been a one who used to encourage new talents. He was a very creative person. He used disco music in Bollywood movies and those songs were indeed hits like Disco Dancer, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, De De Pyaar De, Naino Mein Sapna and there are many.
He died in Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital on February 15 2022, due to obstructive sleep apnea.
