Takeshi’s Castle & Jaaved Jaaferi: A Perfect Equation Of Our Childhood Memories

Though Pogo didn’t offer Jaaved Jaaferi much, he was ready to do this as it was a kids’ show. He put one condition: he would keep a writer along with him for recording.

The entire generation of 90s and 2000s kids has the best childhood memories. Their childhood flourished with amazing cartoons and kids shows like Tom & Jerry, Courage, The Cowardly Dog, Popeya, Scooby Doo, Pokemon, and many more. But yes, the one game show none of us can forget is Takeshi’s Castle. When Takeshi’s Castle, a Japanese game show, started in India, it became famous not just because of the funny games but also because of the voice that made it more humorous. Yes, I am talking about the famous voice behind Takeshi’s Castle, the host of the show Jaaved Jaaferi.

Bollywood actor Jaaved Jaaferi is famous for his comedy roles, female characters, and villains. But a large number of populations know him for Takeshi’s Castle. This actor turns 60 today, December 4. Let’s throw back to his journey in Takeshi’s Castle on this special occasion.

The Pogo channel first approached him to host this show. He found it funny and enjoyable. Though Pogo didn’t offer him much, he was ready to do this as it was a kids’ show. He put one condition: he would keep a writer along with him for recording. Baba Khan, the writer, was very friendly with the Hindustani language; he had good knowledge of phrases and idioms. Both of them, Jaaved and Baba Khan, used to sit together; they used to watch the show first, and Jaaved would then give him pointers. They would write a basic format first and then used to put punctuation in between.

Takeshi’s Castle was fine-tuned between Jaaved Jaaferi and Baba Khan. The success of the show was that not only children but adults started following it. Jaaved Jaaferi shared his thoughts about this show; he said, “Players were participating for fun, but the prize at the end was that no one knew about it, not even me. Many times I did not understand what was going on, and sometimes I have said on show that, ‘Ye Ho Kya Raha Hai Bhai, Muze Khudko Samaj Nhi Aa Raha Hai.’ Most of the show was impromptu.”

Indeed, it was a cult show, and this legend made us love Takeshi’s Castel.
