Bollywood actor Sunny Deol is all over the headlines for his latest hit Gadar 2. It is a sequel to his all time blockbuster film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. And with its sequel after 22 years, Sunny Deol has once again proved his mettle in the industry. While Sunny is known for his strong on-screen presence, he chooses a private life away from Bollywood’s showsha. Did you know that Sunny doesn’t even get along with King Khan- Shah Rukh Khan?
Well, this story has its origin in 1993 when Sunny was already an established star while Shah Rukh Khan was a newbie. Sunny was offered to play a protagonist in Yash Chopra’s film Darr. However, when many leading actors refused to play the antagonist, it was Shah Rukh Khan who finally agreed to play the psychotic lover.
When the film was released, Shah Rukh Khan became an overnight star. His performance overshadowed Sunny Deol, who was the hero of the film. Sunny was angry with Yash Chopra for giving more prominence to Shah Rukh’s character. In an interview, Sunny even said that Yash Chopra betrayed him. A report of IndiaTimes quoted Sunny, “I believe working with trust. Unfortunately, we have many actors and stars who don’t function in this manner. Maybe that’s the way they want to get their stardom. I’ll never work with Yash Chopra again. He isn’t a man of his words. I don’t have good memories of him, he betrayed my faith in him.”
Sunny Deol even had an agument with Yash Chopra while shooting climax scene with Shah Rukh. At an episode of Aap Ki Adalat, Sunny said, “I tried explaining that I am a commando officer in the film. My character is an expert and fit, then how can this boy beat me easily? He can beat me if I can’t see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won’t be called a commando.”
However, Yash Chopra paid no heed to Sunny’s comments. It made Sunny so angry that he ripped his pants out of anger.
Sunny Deol then vowed to never work with Shah Rukh Khan. He didn’t even speak with SRK for 16 years. Later, Sunny said, “It’s not that I didn’t talk but I just cut myself off and I anyway don’t socialize much. So we never met, toh baat karne ki baat he nahi hai.”

Sunny Deol even took an indirect dig at Shah Rukh Khan for dancing at the wedding or private functions. Indiatimes quoted Sunny Deol’s interview with a magazine: “Only mujrawallis dance at weddings, not actors. I think actors should maintain their dignity. Dancing at a friend’s wedding is okay, but getting paid to dance is cheap. Next, you will ask me-isn’t prostitution better than borrowing money from the market? I don’t agree with this kind of logic.”
Though he didn’t name anyone, but everyone assumed that he was talking about SRK.
Years have passed, the grudges haven’t still vanished.
