Summons Order To Badshaah By Maharashtra Cyber Cell

Badshaah had appeared in the court as a witness and not as an accused, under section 160 of CrPC. Section 160 gives power to the police to make the required witness appear.

A singer and rapper who has given amazing beats and people literally enjoy vibing on his songs, like Garmi, Jugnu, The Break Up song, Dj Waley Babu and many more, Aditya Prateek Singh Sisodia, known as Badshaah appeared before Maharashtra Police Cyber Cell on Monday, 30 October. It is said that he has promoted fairplay, a betting app which illegally streams Indian Premiere League 2023 matches.

Viacom 18 Network, who has Intellectual Property Rights to stream IPL matches, filed a case against Badshaah and other Bollywood celebrities including Sanjut Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Jacqueline Fernandez and some others. All these celebrities have illegally promoted the Fairplay app to watch matches.

As per the complaint, Badshaah had been summoned and questioned by Cyber Cell authorities. Rights of IPL 2023 were completely in the hands of Viacom 18 and streaming of matches on Fairplay app and website is the violation of rights. Thus, this case comes under digital piracy.

Securing Badshaah’s side, advocate Prashant Patil stated that, “he had appeared in the court as a witness and not as an accused, under section 160 of CrPC. Section 160 gives power to the police to make the required witness appear.” As a sincere citizen who respects and follows law, he appeared in front of cyber cell and was questioned by department for 3-4 hours. Proceedings were going on in the World Trade Centre in Cuffe Parade.

There are many such apps, like Fairplay, which illegally streams content without rights. Viacom 18 has filed a case against all those who are allegedly streaming content from the VOOT app. Foreplay app is related to Mahadev app. Mahadev app is itself a controversial topic. It is an illegal betting app and the Enforcement Directorate has been running proceedings against this app. This app has caused scams of some crores. Therefore, the Fairplay app will also go under thorough investigation.  While regarding the case, there has not been any solid decision taken in connection with Badshaah.
