Maharashtra Police interrogates rapper Badshah over FairPlay Betting app case relating to IPL, registered by Viacom 18 Media Group.

Popular rapper ‘Badshah’ was recently questioned by the Maharashtra Police over a matter related to an online betting app ‘FairPlay’; the interrogation session with Cyber Police officials lasted over 3-4 hours. Viacom 18 has filed a case against the singer and 40 other celebrities including massy actor Sanjay Dutt for the alleged promotion of Indian Premier League’s (IPL) viewership on FairPlay betting app.

Media giant Viacom 18 backed by the ‘Ambani Family’ owns the Digital Streaming Rights for IPL worth crores of rupees, but the matches were illegally being streamed on FairPlay app, as informed by the media organisation.

Advocate Prashant Patil from Badshah’s legal Team, informed through a statement that his client was summoned as a witness to the entire case and not as an accused. ”Badshah was summoned under section 160 CRPC, which is generally issued against a witness and not to an accused”, the lawyer revealed.

”As a law abiding citizen, Badshah appeared before the Cyber Crime department and duly cooperated with the investigation agency. He has produced Bank detail records which clearly reflect that he has not committed any offence and is just a witness to the entire investigation. If needed, Badshah shall further cooperate with the investigation agency and appear before the Cyber Crime unit,” he added.
