Satya Completes 25 Years: There was pressure on us not to make film after Gulshan Kumar’s Murder, Reveals JD Chakravarthy

Ram Gopal Varma's Unwavering Determination Made "Satya".

JD Chakravarthy, who played a lead role in the film “Satya,” has revealed an interesting fact that was unknown to many. The movie has completed 25 years, and during an interview, the actor stated that director Ram Gopal Varma was advised against making a film on the underworld.

“The one thing that would have really worried me was that on the third day of the shoot, Gulshan Kumar was shot, and it was really bad news. It was bad news for two reasons – firstly, any act of violence is disheartening, and secondly, there was pressure on us not to make a film on the underworld. We heard from the industry that we should not proceed with the film. It’s a horrifying memory for me,” he said to Indian Express.

Despite the challenges, Ram Gopal was determined to make the film. “Mr. Ram Gopal Varma will do what he wants to do, what he thinks is right, regardless of whether it is considered right or not. Fortunately, at that point, Ramu sir acknowledged that what had happened was wrong, and he wasn’t glorifying the underworld. That was his perspective on how the underworld operates, and it was the first time the world would have seen the emotional side of the underworld,” he concluded.

Regarding the movie, it starred actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Urmila Matondkar, Shefali Shah, Saurabh Shukla, and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles.
