After having a few slews with release dates from the past year, Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is now ‘theatre ready’. The period drama casts Akshay with Manushi Chillar and Sonu Sood, among other talented crew, directed by Chandra Prakash Dwivedi. Akki plays the titular role of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan while Manushi essays his wife’s character, Sanyogita.

The trailer of the film received mixed reactions from fans, mostly appreciating the movie that promises to showcase the legends of the Samrat Prithviraj. With the movie making quite a buzz after its release, here are 5 interesting facts about the movie you should know before you decide to watch it!

1. GRAPHICS

One thing that’s quite visible from the teaser itself, is the enormous amount of effort that the makers of the period drama have invested in the making of the film. It goes without saying that VFX plays an important role in the making of any period drama, and director Dwivedi has sure paid heed to this thought while making Samrat Prithviraj. So much so, that the makers nearly spent 2 years helming the graphics of the film.

2. STORYLINE

Samrat Prithviraj is not just a biopic that shows the legend of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan, the film sure has more layers to it. One thing that’s evident from the trailer of the film is the connection between art and literature. The film touches the Rajasthani folklore by putting on display the iconic poetry ‘Prithiviraj Raso’ by Chand Bardai, the courtroom poet of Samrat Prithviraj.

3. AESTHETIC DETAILS

The director of the film, Dr Chandra Prakash Dwivedi, who also happens to be the writer of the film reportedly spent a staggering 18 years to get his facts right about the life of Samrat Prithviraj. With that dedication, one can expect to witness all the aspects of his life in the period drama. Aditya Chopra, producer of the film even assigned a dedicated research team in order to leave no stones unturned.

4. SHOOTING

While what becomes the most beautiful part of period film, it’s the grandeur of the location and the captivating stills that come with it. Apparently, for Prithviraj, many scenes were to be shot in different locations of Delhi, Ajmer and Kannauj in the 12th century, thanks to producer Aditya Chopra for making realistic sets from the scratch, which also wasn’t an easy task. Reportedly, the sets took as long as 8 months to be made in a way that they look very realistic.

5. ARTISTIC LOOKS

The teaser of the film looked colourful and vibrant, thanks to the appealing makeover of each character in the film. Especially, the lead characters Akshay and Manushi’s costumes were apparently designed by a traditional costume designer from Rajasthan, who was specially flown to Mumbai to design. As many as 50,000 costumes with 500 turbans were designed as a whole for the film.
