Exclusive: “Lata Ji Aur Bappi Da Ka Daur Vapas Nahi Aayga” – Composer Lalit Pandit

Music director Lalit Pandit shares some fond memories of the late music legends Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri.

2022 has been an unfortunate year for the Indian music industry. We lost legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri and KK. Their sad demise feels like the end of an era; an era that can never return. Music director Lalit Pandit of the popular Jatin-Lalit duo feels that artists like them can never be born again.

During an exclusive chat with us, Lalit Pandit shared fond memories of Lata Mangeshkar and Bappi Lahiri. He said, “That era won’t come back. I feel myself fortunate that during the end decades of Lata Ji, I have worked the most with her. She used to love me a lot. She knew our family since childhood. Lata Ji’s demise isn’t just the loss of this nation but of the entire world. She was such a big artist. I think an artist like her can’t be born again. Lata Ji, Asha Ji, Kishore Da, Rafi Sahab- they were the blessings of the God to our country.

“Bappi Da was also a great composer. He was a great human being as well. He was always a guiding force and he loved me a lot. I knew him since my childhood. I always used to visit him on his birthdays. He liked my music and he was happy to see me doing good work in music. He was like a big brother to me,” he further added.

Talking about the music he enjoys, Lalit said, “It’s been 40 years but I still listen Kishore Da’s songs. I enjoy listening to Bappi Da’s songs. It is soulful music and it never gets old.”

Lata Mangeshkar left for heavenly abode on 6 Feb 2022. In Jan, she had tested positive for Covid-19 and a month later, she died from multiple organ dysfunction at the age of 92. A week after Lata Mangeshkar’s death, the nation got another shock as composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at the age of 69. He died of obstructive sleep apnea.
