Kangana Ranaut Reacts To The Controversial Bhagavad Gita Scene In Oppenheimer

Kangana Ranaut stepped out to watch Oppenheimer with her family. A netizen questioned her about the controversial Bhagavad Geeta scene in the film.

While there’s quite a craze for Christopher Nolan’s movie Oppenheimer among the Indian audience, a scene involving the holy Hindu text has apparently been upsetting for people of the concerned faith. In the film, there’s a scene where the physicist (played by Cillian Murphy) is having sex with psychologist Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh) and she asks him to read a verse from what appears to be a Sanskrit book. Oppenheimer reads out the verse- “Now, I am become Death, destroyer of the world.” This text belongs to the holy Hindu scripture “Bhagavad Geeta”. Ever since the film was released in theatres, people have been expressing their polarised opinion about the same. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut recently stepped out to watch the film and shared her opinion on the controversial Bhagavad Geeta scene in Oppenheimer.

She began by applauding the film as she wrote in a tweet, “Oppenheimer day … what a wonderful film … fine blend of Physics, Politics and History everything that I love !! If there is something called cinematic orgasm then for me this is it.”

When a Twitter user asked her to comment on the controversial scene, she replied, “Everyone has their own way of showing devotion, being a Jewish person he won’t see Hindu Gods religiously but in the film if he has devotion or influence of anyone that’s Lord Vishu … now that’s also Bhakti in its raw form …”

However, netizens don’t agree with Kangana’s point of view. A user countered, “Oppenheimer had devotion towards Lord Vishnu but I think director shouldn’t have filmed the intimate scene with BhagwadGita in her hand. It didn’t look good.”

“I wish no religion, god, language, race, culture, national flag etc shouldn’t be defamed. Everyone deserves respect. Nolan could easily show in different scenes, holy book in sex scene was derogatory. That’s why doubt their intentions. Moreover, that sex scene was unnecessary,” says another.

In another tweet, Kangana continued expressing what she loved about Nolan’s film. She said, “On the other hand I just loved it, quantum physics, particles are waves and indulging in the forces that keep those waves together, harnessing those universal forces and unleashing Virat roop of Shri Hari Vishnu!! My Jam!! Art is subjective… it’s beyond me how one can’t like things related to Physics, spirituality, science and politics.. but you must be feeling the same way about me … that’s how art is what to do !!”

She added, “When the final explosion happens, the deafening silence and blinding fire, we cut to Oppenheimer face and there is a voice over “ And now I am the destroyer of the world … “ it reminded me of Kurukshetra battle when lord Vishnu took Virat roop before Arjuna who was blinded by his light and Lord Vishnu said “Sab Praani Mujhi se uttpan hokar mujhme hi samaa jaate hain” I It was a gorgeous built up to that moment, I was stunned and enthralled!!”

Oppenheimer was released in theatres worldwide on 21 July. It clashed with Greta Gerwig’s fantasy film Barbie.
