India’s Most Sansanikhez Kahaniyan: Zainab Shaikh’s Exclusive Interview

Lehren's exclusive with actor Zainab Shaikh who was recently seen in India's Most Sansanikhez Kahaniyan Case File 03 hosted by Ronit Roy.

How was your experience working on Sansanikhez Kahaniyan?

It was fantastic. I was working on something like this for the first time. At one moment we were shooting a murder scene and the next moment we were shooting a party scene. But it was interesting for me as I was really enjoying every part of it.

Tell us about your role.

I am playing Subhi. She is a girl from Delhi and has a very outgoing personality. She is dating an older man. She has a lot of zeal and enthusiasm towards life. I really enjoyed playing her.

Was it challenging to play this role?

It wasn’t very challenging. But there very many scenes where I had to cry a lot and that time it became a little difficult because I am not very good at crying. I had to improvise a lot during those scenes. Otherwise, I am happy to play any other scene.

How was your experience working with Ronit Roy?

Actually, he is hosting the series. So, we didn’t a chance to shoot with him. But he is a very senior actor and it was great to be hosted by him.

How did you begin your journey into the entertainment industry?

It wasn’t very easy in the beginning. I hail from a middle-class background and it was not easy for me to convince my parents about the idea of coming into the industry. Although, all the inspiration for working in the entertainment industry came from my father and mother. My mother is in the beauty industry while my father always loved watching Fashion TV and he himself is a bodybuilder. So, I grew up in a family where I always wanted to look good and be pretty. I always wanted to face the camera. I always wanted to lead. I always wanted to do something different from the crowd.

Later on, when I started bagging good opportunities, my parents also supported me.

What kind of roles do you want to play?

Every girl who comes into the industry imagines herself wearing a saree and dancing in the snow. Every girl dreams of doing that in a Yash Raj Film. So, it is one thing that I want to do.

Secondly, I am very inspired by women-centric roles like Wonder Woman. So, I want to do action and beat up the goons. Lots of romance and action is what I want to do on screen. And I can do comedy roles anytime. I love to crack jokes.

Would you like to be a part of reality shows in the future?

I don’t know. I am not a big fan of reality shows. I can’t fight or abuse. So, I wouldn’t understand how to bring TRP for the show.

What kind of difficulties did you face during the lockdown?

It was the initial time of my career. I had just started getting a lot of work and suddenly we all were locked down. I didn’t understand what was happening. I used to be so scared at the beginning of the pandemic. But I adapted eventually. So, the 2021 lockdown was a bit better than the 2020 lockdown. But the situation got worse this year. I had to worry a lot about my own people.

You live without your parents in Mumbai?

Yes, my parents live in Pune while I stay in Mumbai.

Have you signed any other project?

Yes, there are many projects lined up. I can’t wait to go shoot them.

Do you find the process of auditioning tiring or exciting?

I find it tiring and exciting at the same time. Because you have to give your best at every audition.

How do you deal with rejections and what is your source of motivation?

I have set certain goals for myself in life and it is very important that I stand up to them and work hard to achieve them. So, I make sure to get up every morning and show up without thinking about what is happening around me and what would be the results. But yes, there are certain times when I feel demotivated. Rejections can hurt you and break you. But in the end, you have to remember that God has plans for you.

How do you take care of your fitness?

I am a total fitness freak. I love working out. Even if I feel lazy on a particular day and don’t want to work out, then also I will go to the gym and look around. After 10 or 20 minutes, I eventually get the mood. But I try to never miss my workout.

Workout is not a luxury, it is a necessity. One should do it for at least 30 minutes every day.

What is your regime for 30 minutes of workout?

It would involve warm up and cardio.

Are you a foodie or do you follow a strict diet?

I cheat a lot with my diet. I am a big foodie. It’s not like I eat a lot, but I like to have a variety. I want to taste everything.
