Here’s How Hema Malini Got ‘Mathura’ As Her Parliamentary Constituency, Details Inside

The Story Behind Hema Malini's Selection of Mathura As Her Parliamentary Constituency

The veteran actress has ruled Bollywood for decades and was one of the top actresses during her time. However, she is now much more active in politics and serves as a Member of Parliament from the Mathura constituency. But not many people know how Hema Malini ended up representing Mathura.

In an exclusive interview with Lehren TV, the actress shared the story of how she got the opportunity to contest elections from Mathura. “Many devotees used to call me for dance ballets. ISKCON used to invite me, and I loved it. I felt a strong connection and a deep sense of fulfillment,” she explained. “When my term as a Rajya Sabha member ended, my political party asked me to run for elections. However, at that time, I declined the offer. Dharmendra Ji became an MP from Bikaner, and he found it challenging to travel to such a distant place. I wanted to experience what it’s like to be an MP in the Lok Sabha because being a part of the Lok Sabha means being closer to the public. Throughout my life, I have been with the people, and I wanted to continue being with them. So, I asked them to give me a chance to contest elections from Mathura, and I was ready to take on the challenge,” the actress said.

Hema Malini also opened up about her Guru Maa and the invaluable support she provided. “She guided me at every step. At a certain point, I was doing film after film but didn’t know what to do next. It was then that my Guru Maa, Indira Devi, advised me to continue with dance,” the actress revealed. Guru Maa also provided spiritual guidance to Hema Malini. “She encouraged me to do a film on Meera, as she herself was a devotee of Lord Krishna,” Hema added.

When filmmaker Premji approached Hema with a film proposal, she suggested making a film on Meera and recommended lyricist Gulzar as the director.
