Gurpreet Ghuggi Reacts On Punjabis Being Shown As Jokers In Bollywood

Actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi opened up about how Punjabis were shown as jokers in Bollywood films and things are changing with time.

For the longest time, Punjabis have been portrayed as funny elements in Hindi films. This has severely damaged the image of Punjabis over the years. At a recent event, Punjabi actor and comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi comment on the same. He said that attempts are now made to protect the Punjabi community from getting typecast.

Gurpreet Ghuggi said, “When you see films like 3 Idiots and Dangal that can change the mindset of the nation, then why can’t we rectify the portrayal of Punjabi community. I will give you one example of how we contributed and things are changing now. When we participated in Laughter Challenge season 1, and when I used to tie my turban there, the entire crew used to get surprised seeing the process of tying the turban. People used to think that turban comes ready-made and we just put it on our head. So, firstly, we taught Bollywood how to tie the turban.”

He added, “Earlier, ready-made turbans were used in films and they looked very silly. But now you see the turban of Mr. Aamir Khan in Lal Singh Chaddha and compare it with Ranbir Kapoor in Rocket Singh and Akshay Kumar in Singh Is King. You’ll know the difference. So, we started it with the turban and we will change everything. We will tell what is real Punjab and what are real Punjabis.”

Gurpreet will be next seen in Punjabi comedy film Carry On Jatta 3. The film features Gippy Grewal and Sonam Bajwa in the lead roles. It will hit the theatres on June 29.
