Exclusive: Bijay Anand On His Role in Adipurush, Success Of Shershaah & Aryan Khan Case

Lehren's exclusive with actor Bijay Anand as he talks about his upcoming films, success of latest release 'Shershaah, and his opinion on Aryan Khan case.

Actor Bijay Anand was recently seen in the blockbuster film ‘Shershaah’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in lead. He played the role of (Kiara Advani’s character) Dimple’s father in the film. After the success of Shershaah, Bijay Anand will be seen playing pivotal roles in two mega films.

One of them is Adipurush, a film based on Ramayana. It stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. We recently got into a conversation with Bijay Anand to know more about the film and his role.

Bijay told, “I am playing Brahma in the film. Interestingly, when I entered the film industry 30 years ago, I and Saif were supposed to do a two-hero film. Saif and I took dance and fight training together for 6 months. We used to meet every day and became good friends. Unfortunately, the film was never made and we never got a chance to work again. While working together for a scene in Adipurush, we were remembering old days and told our director Om Raut about it.”

Bijay Anand told that he has already completed the shoot of his part. He also told that Adipurush will be his fourth Ramayan. He said, “I played the role of Laxman in BR Chopra’s Ramayan. In Siya Ke Ram, I played Janak. I was also a part of Satish Suri’s Ramayan. I don’t remember my role because it happened 20 years ago. And now, I am playing Brahma in Adipurush.”

When asked about how Adipurush will be different from other films or TV shows made on Ramayan, Bijay Anand said, “It is contemporary Ramayan, a little different from what we see traditionally. The whole saga of Ramayana will be told in a fresh way which the audience will love.”

Bijay Anand will also be seen in Emraan Hashmi’s film titled ‘Dybbuk’. It is the remake of the 2017 Malayalam film ‘Ezra’. When asked about the details, Bijay Anand told, “It has elements of suspense, thrill and horror. We shot in Mauritius. I play Emraan Hashmi’s boss in the film.”

“Emraan Hashmi is very good. It was really great working with him,” he added. Dybbuk will premiere on 29 October 2021 on Amazon Prime Video.

When asked whether the success of Shershaah opened more opportunities for him, the actor said, “Yes, I am getting many calls. But I am at my Yoga centre as I teach Yoga also. I like to live here. I dedicate fours hours every day to gardening and I like it a lot. I feel uncomfortable going to the city. So, I haven’t exploited the opportunities of Shershaah because honestly, I act in films as a hobby. I don’t like to call acting my profession. I do a film only if I really like the role or the shooting location. I had once rejected a good offer because they wanted to shoot in Toronto and I didn’t want to go. The film’s location was later changed to Cape Town and when they called me again, I accepted the offer. I am talking about my role as Sunny Leone’s father in her biopic. So, the conclusion is that I don’t do things I don’t like.”

“I also seek respect and I can’t compromise with that. I don’t aim at working with big banners who can’t respect me,” he concluded.

Giving a piece of advice to young artists, Bijay Anand said, “Work hard. But don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Because your life will be ruined if the basket breaks. When I started acting 30 years ago, I had a painting business simultaneously. So, one needs to plan a parallel profession. A young actor needs to have a backup plan. So that you can live your life at your own terms.”

We also asked the Shershaah actor his opinion on Aryan Khan’s arrest. He said, “Huge respect for Shahrukh Khan and yes, Aryan Khan is just a kid. But one must know that the entire state of Punjab has been destroyed due to drugs. Even in Mumbai, if we go back in time, 28 out of 30 people used to take drugs during a party. I am talking about 25 years ago! I just have one thing to say. Sameer Wankhede is an honest officer who made a huge difference while he was in customs. You couldn’t even smuggle one gold pendant, while he was serving in Customs. And now, he is making a difference in NCB. And he is cleaning the dirt of drug addiction. And, I am not talking about Aryan Khan.”

He further added, “Sameer Wankhede is a very honest officer and it is shameful to point fingers at him. Looking at how he is being targeted, I think, we, as a society don’t deserve an honest officer like him. Because we never appreciate honest people like him. People are putting serious allegations against him. They are saying, ‘He went to Dubai’. So what if he went to Dubai. The guy who fixes my puncture has been to Dubai thrice. Don’t you think that Sameer earns enough that he can afford a trip to Dubai? His wife is a big actress. If you are saying that he is not honest, then prove it. If a man is cleaning the society, let him do it.”
