Did Dharma’s Creative Director Criticise Vidhu Vinod Chopra For Not Giving Credits To Writers? Said, ‘Don’t Be A D**K’

In his recent post, Somen Mishra criticised directors for not giving due credit to writers, while also praising Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar.

Dharma’s Creative Director, Somen Mishra, has criticised directors who do not give credits to writers. Recently, in his Instagram stories, he indirectly rebuked filmmakers for not acknowledging writers. Without naming anyone, he wrote, ‘Be like Rohit Shetty. Be like my boss KJ. Always acknowledge your writers. Stop hogging all credits. Some directors have a terrible habit of forgetting their writers. Don’t be a d**k. A film that recently released on OTT and is receiving a lot of love – nobody knows who has written it or the book on which it is based. Because the director remembers only himself doing everything in all his interviews.’

Soon after, his post started trending on social media, and Reddit users began connecting the dots, linking Somen’s comments to the recently released film ’12th Fail’on OTT, starring Vikrant Messy.

Somen had earlier praised the film on his social media account, saying, ‘I just revisited the last 15-20 mins of #12theFail. It still works, so moving, so emotional. I saw the film in the theater; not a single eye was dry. Quite an achievement when the film is about cracking an exam and everyone knows the climax. Still, it takes you on that journey and makes it work.’

However, he further criticised Vidhu Vinod Chopra, calling him chindi for not giving credit, ‘As much as we all are praising the film and VVC, I hope he realizes he is too stingy with credits, especially writing and editing. He needs to stop hogging all the credits. He has done this in the past too. Made a good film, is the director – that’s enough. You become bigger by giving the right credits,’ he wrote.

Regarding the movie ’12th Fail,’ it has garnered love from fans and critics alike, and it recently received an OTT release. The film narrates the true story of IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma’s life and struggles, based on Anurag Pathak’s book of the same name.
