Sridevi’s English Vinglish has completed 10 years. It was one of the most loved movies of Sridevi. The movies showcase a housewife Shashi takes English Speaking classes when she visits New York to attend a family wedding. Sumeet Vyas, who played the role of Sridevi’s classmate in the English Speaking course, says the film is close to his heart.
Sumeet Vyas opened up on his first fully commercial setup. English Vinglish was his first big project at that point of his career. Talking about working with director Gauri Shinde and producer R Balki he also shared his experience. The 39 years old actor said, “Some projects come to you at a certain stage in life, and they make you change yourself. This was that for me, I have only fond memories, no bad ones.”
He went on to say, “It was the first time I worked in a fully commercial film setup. Thankfully for me, I was working with Gauri Shinde, R Balki was the producer. They were such grounded people, and Sridevi too. My impression of the film industry hence was that, ki sab log iss industry mein aise hi hote hain. But of course later I met a bunch of a***oles (laughs) Since then, I have been seeking that kind of set-up.”
English Vinglish was Sumeet’s first abroad project as most the film was shot in New York. Talking about his first trip to the United States, Vyas said, “It was also my first time shooting abroad. I had so much down time during the shoot, we would only shoot on weekends. So Monday to Thursday we were free, Friday to Sunday we will shoot. It was sort of like a paid vacation.”
On the work front, Sumeet Vyas was last seen in Jugaadistan, a web series that premiered on Lionsgate Play. His latest teleplay Gunehgaar by Zee Theater released on 24th September. Vyas recently announced the third season of Tripling. The trio will soon take their adventurous road trip of Tripling 3 on Zee 5.
