Bollywood actress Disha Patani’s father, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagdish Singh Patani, was reportedly defrauded of Rs 25 lakh by a group of five individuals on November 15, Friday. The group had allegedly promised him a prestigious position within a government commission, as stated by police officials.
Jagdish Patani, a resident of the Civil Lines area in Bareilly, filed a complaint alleging that Shivendra Pratap Singh, a personal acquaintance, facilitated his introduction to Diwakar Garg and Acharya Jayaprakash. The individuals in question purportedly asserted their connections to influential political figures and assured Patani of a high-ranking position, potentially as chairman or vice-chairman, within a government commission.
On Friday evening, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Bareilly Kotwali police station. D K Sharma, the officer in charge of the Kotwali police station, stated, “A case has been registered against Shivendra Pratap Singh, Diwakar Garg, Acharya Jayaprakash from Juna Akhara, Preeti Garg, and one unidentified individual for offenses including cheating, criminal intimidation, and extortion. We are actively pursuing the apprehension of the accused and will take stringent measures.”
The group is reported to have earned Patani’s trust prior to extracting a total of Rs 25 lakh from him, which included Rs 5 lakh in cash and Rs 20 lakh transferred to three distinct bank accounts. Following a period of three months without any advancement, the accused assured Patani that they would return the funds along with interest. Nevertheless, when Patani requested his money back, they allegedly reacted with threats and hostile conduct, as stated by the police.
