Director Buchi Issues An Apology After ‘Peddi’ Faces Backlash Over Janhvi Kapoor’s Scenes: “We Have Taken The Feedback Seriously…”

A debate around Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in Peddi has taken an unexpected turn. With viewers raising concerns online, director Buchi Babu Sana has now issued a public apology and announced changes to certain scenes.

Just two days after the release of Peddi, film’s director Buchi Babu Sana has publicly addressed the criticism surrounding around the movie and confirmed that changes will be made to certain portions.

The outrage that happened during film trailer’s unveiling or after film’s release mainly revolves around the portrayal of leading lady Janhvi Kapoor’s character. Several viewers felt that despite being an important part of the story, her character lacked any depth. Others questioned the way some scenes were filmed which revolved around her, claiming the focus was placed was placed more on her appearance than the emotions of the character.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), director Buchi Babu shared long note by acknowledging the audience’s concern.

He started with – “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously.”

And the filmmaker further clarified that disrespecting women was never the intention behind the film, “I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize,” he added.

Confirming that the team has reviewed the feedback, he added, “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions.” Also reflecting on the responsibility that filmmakers carry, Buchi Babu said, “Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”

The Uppena (2021) director concluded the note by stating, “Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values.”

While Ram Charan starrer Peddi opened with strong audience interest, the conversation around its portrayal of woman has become one of the film’s biggest talking points. With the makers now promising cuts and edits, all eyes will be on how these changes shape the film’s journey in the coming days. It also remains to be seen what lies ahead for Peddi, which only recently arrived in theatres on June 4, 2026.
