Telangana politician Konda Surekha recently caused a major stir by involving Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a political controversy, blaming BRS Party leader KTR for the Tollywood couple’s divorce. This upset many in the film industry, leading actor Nagarjuna to take legal action. As Naga Chaitanya’s father it caused huge disappointment and Nagarjuna filed a defamation case against Konda Surekha, stating that her comments hurt his family’s reputation.
The defamation case officially started on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at the Nampally Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Actor Nagarjuna was present along with his wife Amala Akkineni, son Naga Chaitanya and actress Supriya Yarlagadda. The case focuses on Konda Surekha’s comments about Chaitanya and Samantha’s divorce, which were widely spread in the media.
In court, Nagarjuna said that these remarks were false and made for political reasons. He stressed that public figures like Konda Surekha must be responsible for the damage they cause with their statements. According to Nagarjuna, these comments caused emotional stress to his family and damaged their reputation which they worked hard to build in both movies and social service.
Earlier, actor Nagarjuna shared his anger on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “I strongly condemn the comments of Honorable Minister Konda Surekha. Don’t use the lives of movie stars who stay away from politics to criticize your opponents.” Although Konda Surekha apologized to Samantha, she did not apologize to Naga Chaitanya or the Akkineni family, which made Nagarjuna even more upset. He demanded a full apology for the harm caused.
The court recorded Nagarjuna’s statement and has postponed the hearing to a later date. Nagarjuna and his family are determined to seek justice for the defamatory remarks and the damage they caused to their personal and professional lives.
