Legendary Daniel Craig has decided not to take on the lead role in DC Studios’ upcoming film titled Sgt. Rock,ending speculation about his potential involvement. The movie which is set to reunite Daniel with his Queer director Luca Guadagnino, is still moving forward with a new casting search.
Daniel Craig Drops Out of Sgt. Rock
Sources close to the project confirm that while Daniel’s name was linked to the role since November, he was never officially signed on. some reports suggest scheduling conflicts played a role while others point to the underwhelming reception of Queer, which didn’t gain much traction during awards season. Regardless, DC is now looking for another actor to lead the film with The Bear star Jeremy Allen White reportedly being considered.
What is Sgt. Rock About?
Unlike most DC films filled with Superheroes, Sgt. Rock focuses on a U.S. Army sergeant leading his squad, Easy Company, through World War II. The character introduced in 1959, is known for his tough leadership and has been a staple of DC Comics’ war stories for decades. Interestingly, the comic version of Rock later becomes chief of staff for Lex Luthor.

DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran view Sgt. Rock as a way to expand the range of films under the DC banner. They are treating it as a straight-up war film, hoping to showcase the variety of stories they want to tell in the rebooted DC Universe.
What’s Next for Daniel Craig?
Though he won’t be playing Sgt. Rock, Craig has a packed schedule. He will reprise his role as detective Benoit Blanc in Wake Up Dead Man, the third Knives Out film, and star alongside Charlize Theron in Two for the Money, directed by Justin Lin. With Craig out, the big question remains—who will take the lead in Sgt. Rock?
