Brad Pitt Opens Up About Addiction & Recovery After Split from Angelina Jolie: “F*** Up In Some Areas”

Brad Pitt reveals how the end of his marriage to Angelina Jolie led him to confront addiction and join AA to heal.

Brad Pitt is preparing for his big return to the screen with F1, set to release on June 27, 2025. But beyond the spotlight, Brad has been quietly navigating personal struggles particularly with addiction. In a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast hosted by Dax Shepard, the actor shared how life after his split from Angelina Jolie pushed him to face some hard truths.

The 61-year-old actor spoke candidly about the emotional toll following the end of his second marriage. “I was pretty much on my knees… I needed to wake the f*** up in some areas,” he admitted. The divorce, which was finalized in December 2024 after years of legal battles, became a turning point.

He revealed that during those tough times, he was open to trying anything to feel better. “It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting,” he said

The F1 actor said he was nervous about joining Alcoholics Anonymous but found the space comforting. “It gives you permission to go, ‘OK, I’m gonna step out on this edge and see what happens’. And then I really grew to love it.”

Brad also praised Dax for his honesty, calling him “so f***** honest” and described the group as a place where men could share their struggles, mistakes and pain with openness and even humor.

Brad reflected on his upbringing in Missouri, where emotional openness wasn’t common. He shared how that shaped him and made it harder to deal with pressure and fame. “In the ’90s, all that attention really threw me. I really became a bit of a hermit and just bonged myself into oblivion,” he recalled.

Brad Pitt now credits his sobriety to those tough moments and support from friends like Bradley Cooper. Today, he continues to heal, taking each day as it comes.
