Brad Pitt is finally speaking through close sources about the emotional aftermath of his split from Angelina Jolie. The F1 actor is reportedly trying to leave behind the long legal fight that followed their separation in 2016. “The divorce is something that had been controlling his life for so many years,” a source told Us Weekly. “He loved her and he knows he made mistakes.”
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, once seen as Hollywood’s power couple, were married for just two years but had been together for over a decade. Their split, which became official in December 2024, was drawn out over eight years, filled with legal challenges and custody battles over their six children.
The most painful part for Pitt, according to insiders, is the distance between him and his children Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne. “His biggest regret is that he can’t repair this,” the insider said. “The case is over but there are no winners.”
In recent years, some of the children have distanced themselves publicly by dropping his surname. Shiloh filed to legally remove “Pitt” from her name while Zahara and Vivienne have been seen using only “Jolie.” His relationship with the older kids remains strained, while he continues to see the younger twins under custody agreements.
One of the biggest changes in Pitt’s life has been his journey to sobriety. The insider shared, “The events surrounding their split – like the 2016 plane incident and his battle with alcoholism – turned the kids against him. However, he doesn’t blame [Jolie] for everything.”
Now dating Ines de Ramon, Pitt seems to be rebuilding quietly. “To have that behind him is a relief. But on the other hand, it’s been hard for him because he doesn’t have a great relationship with his kids,” the source concluded.
