Months after the death of filmmaker Jeff Baena the shocking fresh reports have now stirred up, claiming that Jeff Baena and actor Aubrey Plaza reportedly ended their relationship months before Jeff’s death, as per documents from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.. The couple reportedly ended their relationship in September 2024, after which Plaza moved to New York.
According to reports obtained by multiple outlets, including The Hollywood Reporter, Baena was undergoing therapy in the weeks leading up to his passing. He had also made “concerning remarks” to Plaza in October, prompting her to ask a friend to check on him.
The medical report states that Plaza received a text message from Baena on the morning of January 3. Later that day, Baena’s dog walker found him unresponsive at his residence near the Hollywood Hills. The walker immediately called emergency services, and the director was pronounced dead. Investigators noted that loud music was playing inside the house, which the dog walker found unusual. The coroner’s office confirmed that Baena died by suicide and ruled out foul play. He had no known prior suicide attempts but had reportedly struggled with sleep issues.
Following Baena’s passing, Plaza skipped the Golden Globe Awards, where she had been expected to attend. She made her first public appearance a month later at Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary Special, wearing a tie-dye shirt, a quiet tribute to Baena. Jeff Baena and Aubrey Plaza first met in 2011 and worked together on several projects, including Life After Beth and Spin Me Round. They married in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, a fact that Plaza casually revealed in a social media post.
Baena’s family issued a statement calling his death an “unimaginable tragedy” and requesting privacy during this time.
