Australian singer-songwriter Sia has officially filed for divorce from her second husband Dan Bernard after two years of marriage. the 49-year-old musician cited “irreconcilable differences” in court documents submitted in Los Angeles on March 18, according to PEOPLE magazine. The couple who tied knot in an intimate Italian ceremony in May 2023, had legally wed in December 2022.
The legal documents also reveal that Chandelier singer quietly welcomed a baby with Bernard on March 27, 2024. Their son named Somersault Wonder Bernard is now at the centre of a custody request. SInger Sia is seeking both legal and physical custody of their child but has stated that she is open to allowing visitation rights for Bernard. The filing also requests that no spousal support be granted to her estranged husband.
Before her marriage to Bernard, singer Sia had adopted two teenage boys in 2019. She previously shared her experience with SiriusXM, saying,“I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18, they’re both 19 years old now. They were ageing out of the foster care system.” The Cheap Thriller singer admitted that the transition wasn’t easy for them but she was proud of their progess.
In 2020 interview, singer Sia spoke about her struggles with infertility , revealing she had attempted in vitro fertilization treatments with her ex-husband, filmmaker Erik Anders Lang. “Eventually, we did get embryos, but then we also got a divorce, so I wasn’t able to use them,” she explained. This ultimately led her to adopt her two sons after watching an HBO documentary on the foster care system.
Singer Sia has always been known for keeping her personal life away from the spotlight. Her relationship with Bernad remained mostly private and details about their time together are scarce. With this recent divorce filing, Sia is now focusing on co-parenting her baby boy while continuing her music career.
