During the interview, Anu Malik was asked about the film that truly established him as a leading music director. He recalled his early career, mentioning his work on big-banner films like Ek Jaan Hain Hum, Sohni Mahiwal, Mard and more. Although he saw success between 1984, his career took a downturn starting in 1985 which lasted to 1989. And for nearly five years, he faced constant failures and struggled to regain his footing in the industry. He candidly shared that this was one of the most challenging phases of his life. However, in 1990 with the birth of his daughter Anmol Malik, he believed his luck changed. Soon after, new opportunities began coming his way, ultimately leading him to Shah Rukh Khan’s Baazigar in 1993.\

Despite composing music for successful films like Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Radha Ka Sangam, and Jaanam, Anu Malik considers Shah Rukh Khan’s Baazigar as his breakthrough moment. The film’s massive success at the box office played a crucial role in elevating his status in Bollywood.

Baazigar, released on 12 November 1993, became a blockbuster, earning a worldwide gross of ₹320 million on a budget of ₹40 million. Its gripping storyline, suspenseful screenplay, and memorable soundtrack turned it into a cult classic. Anu Malik believes that when a film becomes a hit, its music automatically receives widespread recognition and appreciation.
