He recalled his early career, mentioning his work on big-banner films like Ek Jaan Hain Hum, Sohni Mahiwal, Mard and more. Although he saw success between 1984, his career took a downturn starting in 1985 which lasted to 1989. And for nearly five years, he faced constant failures and struggled to regain his footing in the industry. He candidly shared that this was one of the most challenging phases of his life. However, in 1990 with the birth of his daughter Anmol Malik, he believed his luck changed. Soon after, new opportunities began coming his way, ultimately leading him to Shah Rukh Khan’s Baazigar in 1993.\
