Industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away earlier this month after experiencing a fatal heart attack during a polo match at Guards Polo Club in Windsor, England. During this, an old interview featuring his third wife, Priya Sachdev, has resurfaced and gained significant attention. During the interview, Priya discussed how she first met Sunjay and how they formed a ‘blended’ family, incorporating his children from previous marriages, as well as the unconventional nature of his marriage to Karisma Kapoor.
Priya characterized the marriage between Sunjay and Karisma Kapoor as “not conventional,” indicating that she intentionally refrained from attempting to assume Karisma’s role as the mother of Samaira and Kiaan. Rather, Priya nurtured a warm and amicable relationship with his children, ensuring they never perceived her as trying to usurp their mother’s position (“I can’t be their mom”). She mentioned that their son Azarias, born in December 2018, acted as a cohesive force within the blended family.
These comments provide a touching insight into Priya’s approach to the sensitive dynamics of co-parenting in a second marriage that includes children from Sunjay’s prior relationship with Karisma.
Sunjay and Karisma were married in September 2003 but divorced in 2016 after a tumultuous period characterized by legal disputes. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic violence, whereas Sunjay claimed that she had entered into marriage with him solely for financial gain.
After their divorce, Sunjay commenced a relationship with Priya. The couple quietly tied the knot in April 2017. The resurfaced interview highlights Priya’s careful management of family dynamics and her consideration for the emotional well-being of the children.
