Amanda Seyfried Questions The Value Of Oscars & Why She Doesn’t Need One To Feel Successful

Amanda Seyfried questions the real value of Oscars, saying wins don’t define longevity. From nominations to career choices, the actress opens up about success, balance and why awards aren’t everything in Hollywood.

In an industry where success is measured by big honours that any creator or an artist receives, Amanda Seyfried is choosing a different way to look at things. The actress recently shared her honest thoughts on Oscars and fame, making it clear that winning an Academy Award is not something she’s chasing.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Amanda questioned the long-term value of winning an Oscar. She said she has already come a long way without one, asking plainly, “Do you remember who won in the past ten years?” For her, recognition matters but not in the way people assume.

She explained, “It’s not the win that’s important. It’s the nomination,” adding that nominations do help push an actor forward. Still, she made it clear she isn’t waiting for a trophy to feel complete. “Now, do I need one in a week or two or whenever? No, of course, I don’t. Would it be great? Of course it would… But it isn’t necessary.”

Amanda believes a lasting career comes from thoughtful choices. As she put it, “Longevity in an actor’s career is designed. Longevity is about deliberate choices to make art among the big commercial things that are fun and pay.” It’s a balance she has clearly worked toward.

She earned her first Oscar nomination in 2021 for Mank and recently received Best Actress nominations at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice for The Testament of Ann Lee. Even so, she feels secure in her journey.

Reflecting on the ups and downs of Hollywood, Amanda said, “We all have ebbs and flows in our careers,” noting how success and perception can shift quickly. She also pointed out that while some films work, others don’t calling it all part of the process.

While Amanda Seyfried stays clear of awards pressure, her work continues to speak loudly. Her latest film The Housemaid is still holding steady in theatres, crossing major box office milestones worldwide.
