For years now, Westeros has been moving backward in time. With House of the Dragon digging into Targaryen history and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on the way, fans keep asking one big question – will the story ever move forward? And more importantly, will Sansa Stark ever return?
Sophie Turner has finally addressed that possibility. In a recent interview with The Direct, Sophie was asked if she would consider coming back as Sansa Stark in a potential Game of Thrones sequel. Her response started with humour but quickly turned honest.
“Show me the money (laughs). I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it,” she said. While the idea sounds tempting, Sophie made it clear that money alone wouldn’t decide it. She spoke openly about how special the original series felt and whether that feeling could ever return.
“Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can’t be recreated. I would have to see a script,” she explained.
One of the biggest reasons Sophie feels unsure about returning is how Sansa’s story ended. Unlike many characters, Sansa’s journey closed on a strong note. “But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending,” she said. “I feel like I got a good one, and so I don’t know if I could revisit it.”
Sansa becoming Queen in the North gave fans a sense of closure, even as the finale divided opinions.
HBO already has a packed slate. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms arrives in January 2026, followed by House of the Dragon Season 3 later that year. A Jon Snow sequel was discussed earlier but later shelved.
Still, George R.R. Martin has hinted that sequel ideas do exist and whether Sansa Stark is part of that future remains to be seen.
