When this film was originally released in 2016, it was declared a flop. Made on a budget of approximately ₹25 crore, the movie had earned only ₹9 crore at the time, which was even less than its production cost. However, now that it has been re-released in theaters, it has created a new record of success. Surprisingly, films like Deva, Loveyapa, and Sky Force have not been able to match the earnings of Sanam Teri Kasam upon its re-release. According to reports, the film has grossed over ₹30 crore in its re-release.
Encouraged by this unexpected success, directors Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru have officially announced a sequel to the film. In an exclusive conversation with Lehren Retro, the director duo revealed, “We had already planned a sequel, but since the original film did not perform well, we couldn’t move forward. However, the success of the re-release has given us the confidence to proceed with “Sanam Teri Kasam 2.” The duo also mentioned ahead that the sequel is expected to release on Valentine’s Day next year. The directors further stated, “Since we have always been in favor of casting new talent, we will once again introduce a fresh star cast in Sanam Teri Kasam 2.”
Rao and Sapru also shared an interesting revelation in the exclusive chat,claiming , “When we selected Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane for the original film, no one supported us. But now, the results speak for themselves.”
