Tamil cinema actress Nayanthara has penned a scathing open letter addressing actor-producer Dhanush regarding his refusal to permit the use of footage from their 2015 blockbuster Naanum Rowdy Dhaan for her upcoming Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The documentary, which delves into Nayanthara’s personal and professional life, reportedly faced setbacks due to Dhanush’s legal notice demanding ₹10 crore for unauthorized usage of just three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage.
In her statement, Nayanthara accused Dhanush of harboring a “vengeance” against her and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan who directed Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. She described his actions as a personal vendetta, alleging that his refusal stemmed from a grudge rather than business considerations.
Highlighting the emotional connection she shares with the film, Nayanthara wrote, “This movie is significant not just professionally but personally, as I met my husband during its making. It’s disheartening that you declined to permit even minimal use of its songs or visuals despite repeated requests.”

The actress also accused Dhanush of being inconsistent in his public persona, stating, “I wish you were half the person you portray on stage during audio launches. Your actions do not align with your words.” She added that Dhanush’s behaviour and legal notice not only affected her but the entire team behind the documentary.
Concluding her letter, Nayanthara called for introspection and grace, urging Dhanush to embrace the success of others in the industry. She invoked his signature phrase, “Om Namah Shivaya,” adding a sharp note of irony.
Also, in addition, Nayanathara’s husband and director Vignesh Shivan also reacted to the allegations Sharing a video of Dhanush from Sakka Podu Podu Raja audio launch, Vignesh wrote, “At-least for the sake of some innocent die-hard fans who believe all of this ! I sincerely pray to God ! For People to change and find happiness in other people’s happiness”.
“The love we have for one should turn into hate for another. If it changes, there is no meaning for that emotion. The world is going towards a pathetic condition. There is so much negativity. Nobody likes if another person is doing good in life. Live and let live. Nobody has to hate another person. If you like somebody, celebrate them. If you don’t like somebody, just move on,” says Dhanush in the video shared by Vignesh on Instagram.
As of now, Dhanush has yet to respond to the allegations, leaving fans and the Tamil cinema community awaiting his side of the story. The controversy has undoubtedly cast a shadow over the release of Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
