Mirzapur: The Movie hit theatres across India on September 4, 2026, marking the first time a major Indian streaming series has made the leap from OTT to the big screen. As soon as the morning shows let out, X (Twitter) lit up with reactions — and the verdict, so far, is overwhelmingly in the film’s favour.
From the return of Munna Bhaiya to the film’s action, dialogues, and background score, viewers are already sharing strong reactions online. While several users praised the film as a proper cinematic upgrade of the web series, Divyenndu’s Munna Bhaiya appears to be emerging as one of the biggest talking points.
A Big-Screen Bhaukaal
The film brings back the franchise’s core cast — Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, and Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi — with Ravi Kishan joining the fold as Babbua Yadav. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, who helmed several episodes of the original series, the movie promises the same raw, ruthless energy that made Mirzapur a streaming phenomenon, but scaled up for theatres.
Judging by early reactions, it delivers. Fans flooded X with four- and five-star ratings within hours of the first shows, using hashtags like #MirzapurTheMovie and #MirzapurTheMovieReview to share their verdicts.
What Fans Are Saying
A netizen tweeted, “#MirzapurTheMovie: WINNER. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐ PEAK MASS ENTERTAINER… The iconic web series gets a big-screen upgrade – and the result is a roaring, ruthless, razor-sharp entertainer that works big time… SURE-SHOT HIT (sic).”
Another X user wrote, “#Mirzapur turns the raw, intense franchise into a larger-than-life big-screen spectacle with full mass entertainment. #KaleenBhaiya and #MunnaBhaiya together at their most ruthless and powerful performance will last their impact on audiences. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ — fired entertainment (sic).”
One more netizen tweeted, “I just watched the blockbuster movie #MirzapurTheMovie What an Amazing Movie😍 Loved it❤️ Thank u @TripathiiPankaj @alifazal9 @divyenndu @ravikishann @RasikaDugal @ShriyaP for giving such a wonderful movie🎥 My Review : ⭐️⭐⭐⭐⭐ (sic).”
Some are disappointed with the film
But not all early reviews are positive. Some have called the film sluggish and slow. Labelling the film ‘tortoise’, one review read: “Mirzapur is strictly an average affair till now with DRAGGED SCREENPLAY Come with zero expectations, and you’ll still find it just average. Drama sequences are very slow, confrontation scenes are high point of the first half, but apart from 4-5 High Moments, the whole first half is Painful to watch because of the pacing. Dialogues are good, music is not; they have taken inspiration from Dhurandhar, and it’s clearly visible.”
#MirzapurTheMovieReview : ⭐⭐ A COLOSSAL DISASTER & AN UNBEARABLE HEADACHE! #MirzapurTheMovie is an absolute trainwreck. The highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of India’s biggest OTT franchise ends up being a noisy, hollow disaster.
#Mirzapur – First Half Review The first half is decent with at least three elevated moments. The background music is great and the handling of the movie is pretty good so far. However, there’s a lot of over-explaining which feels like a stretched web series on a big screen. This doesn’t detract from the first half though; it remains interesting thanks to the characters and some popular dialogue. Fans of web series will find it above average but if you’re neutral or unaware of the world it feels a bit stretched with just two or three genuinely high moments. The first song is unnecessary but the Vindhyavasini Mata song was good.
If X is any indication, Mirzapur: The Movie has done exactly what it set out to do — take the franchise’s raw, unapologetic energy and blow it up for the big screen without losing what made fans fall for it in the first place. Between the four-star ratings, the cheers for Munna Bhaiya’s entry, and the “bhaukaal” hashtags trending within hours of release, the internet has already delivered its verdict: this is one homecoming that lives up to the hype. The real test now shifts from Twitter timelines to box office numbers — but for now, Kaleen Bhaiya and company can safely say they’ve won over the timeline.
